Built by the river and surrounded by mountain scenery, it really is a very picturesque village. The houses you see to the right of the picture are typical of Phoenix Town; built on the river bank, sometimes propped up with makeshift scaffolding (as seen here) or with stilts. Many of these places, especially close to the centre of town, are bars, guest houses or night clubs, which have sprung up due to the ever increasing number of tourists who want both beauty and beer.
